Our lives are full of little moments that aren’t always seen—moments of joy, of excitement, or of simple pleasures. A screen can’t always capture these moments that make up our lives. This holiday season, we're sharing a glimpse into our lives—our celebrations, traditions, and what makes us happy.

In 2021, I really got into hiking and I discovered the Finger Lakes trail, which is a long-distance trail going from Allegheny, NY to the Catskills. The main trail covers about 580 miles, but there are several branch trails that are part of the system. Altogether, over 900 miles of trail are free and available within the entire Finger Lakes trail system! And if that’s not enough, the main Finger Lakes trail is a part of the North Country Trail, which goes from North Dakota to Vermont, covering over 4000 miles! It’s actually longer than the Appalachian trail. The FLT has many challenges, including the FLT 50, which I completed this year. You hike any 50 miles of the FLT system to gain a certificate and patch. The Passport hikes are smaller hikes along the FLT that if you complete a certain number of them, you gain other patches as well. The glimpse photographs contain my patches, certificates, and an NCT banner.

As soon as this project was brought up, I immediately thought of this photo I took in 2017 during the holiday season. My husband is Jewish and I am Catholic, so it was the perfect image to illustrate our home. The menorah, backlit with a joy Scentsy warmer and our Christmas tree in the background. It warms my heart to think of the holiday season with our integrated family traditions and events. It is often hard for me to take down these decorations as the holiday season comes to an end, as it brings me peace and love during the cold winter months.

I vividly remember going to see the Nutcracker with my mom as a little girl, just her and I; with three young kids, it was rare for a 1 on 1. We entered a whimsical winter scene at Music Hall where I was immediately drawn to a table lined with nutcracker trinkets. My mom let me pick out anything I wanted. I opted for a sequined nutcracker ornament which I still have to this day. It's one of my fondest childhood memories and led to my love of nutcrackers, ornaments, and holiday traditions that I will forever cherish with my family.

I have a passion for all things vintage. There is just something special about objects that are well-loved and have a story to tell. Vintage wool blankets are among the many things I like to collect. This bright plaid beauty evokes memories of childhood days spent outside ice skating, topped off by wrapping up in a cozy blanket with hot chocolate and marshmallows.

I got engaged to the love of my life this year. We met in the Global Scholars business program at UK, and one night in our sophomore year he asked if I'd like to study for accounting together. (I know, very romantic...) We ended up spending hours that night talking about all sorts of things, but especially music. Jeremy was in our university's professional acapella group, I've played piano since I was in 2nd grade, and in swapping favorite songs we found our musical interests meshed perfectly. That night he showed me a beautiful song called Gamble for a Rose by King Charles. It's been six years since then, and next year at our wedding we'll be doing our first dance to that song.

I grew up hating running. My father for a long time ran 5 miles a day every morning at 5am. He used to drag me out of bed to go with him as often as he could and I loathed it. Then, in 1998, having moved to a brand new city without a job or any friends to speak of, I decided to take up running (in Orlando of all places) and foolishly on a whim put my name into the lottery for the New York City Marathon, despite never having run longer than 5 miles at a time. So I was forced to become a distance runner. I ran it, survived it, and was hooked. I've run 13 marathons since and countless halves, 10Ks, 5Ks, and a few triathlons too. The photo shows the immense pile of race bibs, medals, glasses and other ridiculous swag I've collected from them over the years. I'm still running today, just not quite at marathon distance anymore. Halves are just fine by me nowadays. My love for running, however, is not shared by my son Charlie, who prefers lacrosse, as shown in one of his photos. Isn't he handsome? :) The last photo with the cardinal is a holiday tribute to my father, the one who introduced me to running and who passed away suddenly in July of this year, 4 days shy of his 75th birthday. The number of cardinals that have crossed my path since then is truly remarkable, and lets me know that he's there, watching over me and my boy, reminding us to do what you love, say I love you, and don't ever take a minute for granted.

A very cool place to visit in Upper Michigan, Kitch-Iti-Kipi, near Manistique is a real treat, as it is the most beautiful natural spring in Michigan. Located in pristine woods, the emerald pool is constantly fed by water gushing up through the limestone beneath.

For us, 2021 was a year of venturing back out into the world. This picture of our two kiddos was taken on our first trip out of the country since COVID. I love this picture - the masks around their necks remind me that we are still being vigilent, but their smiles and memories of a beautiful vacation are what shine the brightest. So I'm thankful this holiday season for all the family memories this year has brought us. Oh, and of course I'm thankful for that rarest of all moments when our two teenagers actually hugged each other without bribery!

Fall is my favorite season for many different reasons. The crisp, cool air. The smell of leaves and a warm fire. Apple cider and doughnuts. Everything is full of color and change. I especially love that magical quality of sunlight that filters through the trees and the long shadows cast on the ground. Just one more mile, or maybe 10, or ?

One of my favorite things to do at Christmas is to bake cookies. I learned most of the recipes I use from my Mom and think of her whenever I begin the 2-3 days task of baking and frosting! I have passed my recipes down to my children and find time to bake at least one kind with my grand-daughter every year. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Christmas music, baking cookies and making memories.

My "glimpse" is of two of my favorite things at the holidays: my sweet Caroline (who, ironically, is learning to ice skate as we speak!) and the movie Elf, which essentially plays on a loop in the background of my entire holiday season. (Occasionally, we change to the original Home Alone, but I didn't have a visual of that. Although in hindsight, I could have taken a picture of Caroline doing the shaving scene. Alas.) Not featured is the Elf on the Shelf, Mia, who can't arrive until after Thanksgiving.

As we transition to the holiday season, the colder weather brings more opportunities to cozy up and reserve time for more indoor activities. Leading up to the holidays, I often find myself making handmade gifts for friends and family, some may even include creating watercolor paintings. Watercolor holds a special place in my heart because my grandmother taught me everything I know about the medium. My photos capture a glimpse into some of my watercolors. One of the paintings captured happens to be a piece that 3 generations of women in my family helped to create - my grandmother, my mom, and myself.

A glimpse into my life, outside of what you see in the small window of my office as we digitally connect from our homes, revolves around being the best Dad I can be to my 2 boys. Both boys are actively involved in sports, and I coach both my oldest in baseball and my youngest in lacrosse. It’s stressful and time-consuming but it’s so rewarding to watch them excel and fall in love with their respective sports. While I give up so many weekends doing what I want to do, I love being there to coach and support them as they learn to be great teammates and learn the power of being a part of a team. Go Spartans!

My parents met in 1965 in their high school cafeteria when my Mom shared her dessert with my Dad. They married a few years later. This past April, my parents celebrated their 53rd year of sharing desserts together. Sadly, in October, my Dad lost his lifetime sweetheart and we lost the best Mom in the world. This Christmas will be somewhat somber and bittersweet without her. She loved Christmas so much and did everything to make it special! I took this picture through the ice skate cut-out because I’d like to think of my Mom as being carefree, pain-free, and able to skate away to her heart's content.

"Syzygy" and board games are always on the docket. "What the Squash!" is a term that germinated from family holidays when the adults attempted to censor their bad language around the kids. Gift wrapping (especially at Christmas) is practically an Olympic sport to my Mother. In December, the basement in my parents’ house turns into a “Santa’s Workshop” of sorts, with rolls of paper, bows, tags, stickers, and ribbons sprawled out. My Mom even tapes color-coordinated jingle bells and little chocolate Santas to our gifts. But it was my Dad who taught me how to wrap presents. Every year growing up, I would help him pick out the paper, bows, and tags to wrap my mother’s presents in. He would show me how to fold the paper and where to tape the ends. It was our effort to keep up with her enthusiasm, plus My Dad is colorblind and wanted to make sure everything matched. For our family, it’s another way of showing love and extends the thought we put into every gift we give each other.
